主人是位布衣老者，指尖捻起茶匙的动作轻如拂尘。他总说茶有性情，需知时节、懂水土，更要惜缘。案上的茶器各有故事：粗陶盖碗来自景德镇的老匠人，青瓷公道杯是旅途中偶然所得，连竹制茶则都透着经年摩挲的温润。

三五茶客围坐，看热水注入时茶叶舒展的姿态，听壶盖轻响如自然私语。从明前茶的鲜爽聊到岩茶的岩骨花香，话题随茶汤渐浓，最后都化作唇边回甘。

茶过三巡，有人临窗写几笔书法，有人静静翻着茶经，老者则在茶案前重新布席。原来品茶从不是目的，而是借一片叶子的滋味，寻回生活本该有的从容与专注。
　　由于饮茶成了僧徒的重大生活内容，便逐渐有了一套肃穆庄重的饮茶礼仪。尤其是佛教节日，或朝廷饮赐丈衣、锡仗的时候，这时都需要举行盛大的茶仪。寺院中还专设茶堂，供寺徒们辩论佛理，招待佛友，品饮清茶之用。寺院内的法堂上设有两鼓，右上角的称“法鼓”，左上角的称“茶鼓”。茶鼓一鸣，众僧们就知道是到了聚会饮茶的时候了。宋代林和靖有诗曰：“春烟寺院敲茶鼓，夕照楼台卓酒棋”，描绘出了茶鼓声下寺院幽丽苍远的意态。
